3-Axis or 2-Axis?
The first and most important question to ask yourself is, do you need a two or three-axis portable gantry mill. Our 2-axis gantry mill can be fitted to our gantry milling kit, which can provide 3-axis milling if required.
At SPR, our mills are designed with a precision ball screw and rails in all three axes, X-Y-Z. This replaces older dovetail models. Featuring multiple spindle positions, it allows for an excellent range of milling adjustments, whether in a horizontal, vertical, or angular position. This enables the machine to produce professional quality work in the field.
Versatile
A reliable portable gantry mill must be versatile. At SPR, our versatility includes a dis-engageable drive wheel on the (X-axis). This allows the user to smoothly move the spindle and saddle assembly across the bed for rapid level and alignment. It also offers a multi-spindle option and various size cutting heads (6”, 8”, 10” and 12”).
Fast
A portable gantry mill must also be quick and easy-to-use. Our mill is effortless to assemble and available with either a pneumatic or hydraulic feed with variable feed rates of up to 9" of travel per minute. This makes it incredibly fast-moving.
Precise
Many of our clients were under the false impression they would be sacrificing precision for the convenience of portability. That is not the case with SPR’s portable gantry mill. It is extremely precise because of strategically placed jack bolts across the base allowing for micro-adjustments. It also features a magnetic leveling shelf for a quick read on the cutter or spindle assembly.
